Hi all,
We are approaching the last sprint before the end of the year. The team is coming together (Hi Graham!) with 2 more joining the Monday when we get back from Thanksgiving!
It was so great to have the energy and conversations last week exploring what our universal client could be. Let's keep that energy pushing this week and also keep speaking up and clarifying what we are going to do, how each of us plays a role in that, and by when.
I want to call out below that I moved 2 items from last week to this week since I do not believe that we met the goals. Hitting goals is very important but also acknowledging and being honest with ourselves when we don't is also important. Feel free to comment or edit the below weekly goals if you think they need to be tweaked or updated, let's go knock this week out of the park.
Have a good one everyone, Shane Mac
Last week goals
Nov 8-12th
- Move weekly goals to Height
- Outline what it will take to get to Alpha
- See that every team member has sent a message over XMTP by the end of the week
Next week goals
Nov 15-20th
- Updated product roadmap and UX for Universal client
- Outline what it will take to get to Alpha
- See that every team member has sent a message over XMTP by the end of the
- Define what is needed for an alpha launch, work backward from there on timing, deliverables, and communities to engage for this
XMTP Updates
- Lots of work on product priorities and much more clarity on our first Universal XMTP Client. Continuing this progress this week
- Documented and started digging in on all "Open Questions" in Height as a team https://xmtp.height.app/open-questions
- Lots of conversation around innovating on the “other inbox” and how this can lead to new relationships and what's different in web3 messaging vs the past
- Proposed launching Alpha publicly before ETH Denver. Driving towards an ETH Denver launch 🚀 (Please read and continue the discussion here.)
- Graham joins today! (Sorry I thought it was last week!)
- Incredible community meeting with Evaluate which is worth everyone watching how they see the world exactly like we do (picking the right communities that align with our world is important to remove friction out of the gate)
Crypto industry news
- ENS Name Service Airdrop - I believe this is worth looking at for a few reasons.
- The airdrop was very well executed and really inspired me to think about what we could do at XMTP
- .eth domains are really becoming popular in crypto and could be a great project to align ourselves with
- There's a ton to learn from their network effects and how people love to have something to claim, own, and show off being part of a network. Has me thinking about lots of ideas for XMTP
- Here's an article about the Airdrop https://decrypt.co/85894/ethereum-name-service-market-cap-hits-1-billion-just-days-after-ens-airdrop
- .eth registration 4x'd over night and the delegate strategy pre-launch drove a ton of activity and excitement

- I also loved how simple this image was about their treasury

- Twitter conversation about front-ends disappearing - The conversation about a unified backend protocol is happening. I found this interesting for what we are doing and thinking about our client strategy as showing 1 idea to the world but also that we could have many ideas, try new things, and just inspire a community with lots of client ideas! https://twitter.com/saturnial/status/1459574342816202757?s=27 (very different than owning the client in the past)
