Weekly Dispatch 22

What a week! Last week a few of us from the team descended into the depths of NFT land, which happened to be in New York for some time. It was awesome to have a chance to meet up in person with our newest team member, as well as just have (at least a portion) of us together at once. Especially awesome was being able to meet with people interested in learning more about XMTP, and potentially building with it.

On Monday we gave our first public presentation on what XMTP is all about. What seemed awesome (aside from having some 75 folks attend) was just how attentive everyone was with it. The content was dense, and the presentation was long (about 40 minutes…I uh…have to get that shorter lol), but everyone was paying close attention to what we were talking about. Towards the end we had a bit of time where we took questions and they all seemed very thoughtful.

The interest in both specifically what we're doing as XMTP, and around communication in web3 in general, seems to be at an all-time high. We're seeing use cases constantly brought up, seeing XMTP tagged in these discussions, and even more potential partners reach out than before. We have a window of time where we can own this narrative, and see XMTP deployed within the ecosystem. But to get there, we have to remain dedicated to getting something delivered.

@shanemac and I recognize the lack of clarity we might have in certain areas, and are keen to change that. In today's Weekly Kickoff we'll address this, as well as consider some ways to ensure that we're all A) on the same page in a given week and B) have all of the clarity that we need to get our respective jobs done.

As we all align and march towards our common goal, we'll get closer to making our vision into a reality, and seeing it propagate into the world and web3. Exciting times are ahead.

Last week goals

Nov 1-5th

  • Attend and present at NFT NYC
  • Review the Product Prioritization & Network growth plan to determine best use cases and partners to start with Coda | A new doc for teams.
  • Start running the weekly meeting as product sprints so we all know what we are working on and what we are delivering - this will be led by @petermdenton for the time being
  • Need to get focused on more outbound for recruiting again

Next week goals

Nov 8-12th

  • Move weekly goals to Height

  • Met with StarkWare, who is ready to start helping us build
  • Met with a bunch of potential partners in New York that are all very excited about what we're doing, some ready to start building

Crypto industry news

  • $ENS is launching today for .eth domain owners! [Link]
  • The House passed the infrastructure bill, now headed to the White House for signature to law. It has some particularly awful language in it around crypto. But the good news is that many of those things wouldn't be considered law for at least another year, and we have time to rally as an industry and engage with our lawmakers to make changes. [Link]
  • Matt Huang, co-founder of crypto fund Paradigm, has joined Stripe's board [Link]

What we are reading/listening to

  • This amazing tweetstorm from macro investor Raoul Paul [Link]
  • Bankless interviewing Brian Armstrong (Coinbase) [Link]
