Hey team,

First I've just gotta say how incredibly excited I am about all of the progress that we've been making as a team lately. The demo last week was so great to see. ๐Ÿš€

XMTP Updatesโ€‹

  • It's ETHDenver week! I'm on the plane as we speak heading out (@Graham_McBain will be dropping in on the 16th). I'll be meeting with a ton of folks (developers, partners, investors) and sharing our progress with them. Excited to report back with what happens.
  • Anoop let us know that he's whittled his list of companies he's talking to down from 12 to just 3. We're very much still in the running here and should know more later this week or sometime next
  • We're up and running with both our community forum (running on Discourse) and our new Discord
    • Already had some great contribution to our Discord server with lots of questions from developers!
    • Be sure and jump into them if you haven't already!
  • Shipped a version of our example app that can connect to existing wallets. Great work, @engineering
    • We bought xmtp.chat so that we might deploy it there!

Crypto industry newsโ€‹

  • Two people were arrested in connection with the 2016 hack of Bitfinex that resulted in the theft of bitcoin that today is worth $4.5B. This story is bonkers. My favorite part is that the government seized the crypto because they'd backed up their private keys in cloud storage and got a subpoena for the access ๐Ÿคฃ [link]
  • Aave (whose founder is one of our investors) announced Lens, their social networking protocol that's built on the Polygon L2 [link]
  • The House Financial Services Committee rejected the Treasury department's regulatory recommendations for stable coins [link]
  • The Treasury dept reiterated that they won't treat miners, stakers, and validators as brokers which became an issue after last year's infrastructure bill. [link]

What we are reading/listening toโ€‹

  • EIP-1, HIP-7
    • Doing some research on blockchain improvement proposals as we create our own in the XIP
  • Helium Whitepaper
    • I'm fascinated by their node incentive and coverage model
  • Explaining Mana in IOTA
    • In a recent conversation someone mentioned that Postage reminded them a bit of IOTA's Mana, which is a shadow token that helps guide network incentives
