Peter Denton
HI there! I am Peter and work on growth marketing. I've been in tech since I started college at University of Washington in 1998 and quickly dropped out and worked at my first startup. I've really been educated just from working in many startups.
I've spent most of my career as a PM or on growth marketing and over the past 7 years became very obsessed with engineering as marketing and building internal tools and machines to help create growth.
About me
What will you be doing at XMTP?
I will be working on growth marketing and helping to drive adoption of XMTP in the world
Where are you currently based?
Seattle
What's your primary time zone?
UTC–08:00 (PT)
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Spokane, which is about 300 miles east of Seattle. It used to be (maybe still is) a big product test market. So products would hit the shelves in Spokane, 6 months before they'd roll them out nationwide so thy could get a bunch of feedback. It's where I got my marketing start.
What does your household look like?
I am married to my partner Kelly. We have 2 kids, Abe (14) and Elis (11) and 2 cats. Both my kids love and play music and have quickly surpassed my abilities.
What keeps you energized?
I absolutely love to innovate and learn new things. I like to just dive in and learn my way out. I also love teaching people things when they want to learn. I love that exchange.
Anything else you'd like to share about yourself?
I love music--listening and playinh. I've gotten back into playing golf over the last few years (I played as a junior) now that my son has taken to it. I also love DIY and work on my house all the time, trying to do bigger and bigger projects.
Work preferences
Where on the spectrum of introvert to extrovert would you place yourself?
Equally both extroverted and introverted

Right away
What's your preferred way to receive feedback, in terms of format?
In person / over video, Over the phone, In writing, via long form, In writing, via chat
What's your orientation toward conflict?
I see conflict as mainly positively, and try to be provocative at times.
What time(s) of day are you most productive?
Early morning, Evening, Late at night
What do you value more than anything else?
I am old enough to value my health.
What's your biggest work-related pet peeves?
I have a hard time when people just go with the flow and refrain from giving feedback. It's not that I want people to be critical every time, but when people see something they think is wrong I like it when they speak up.
What does 'work-life balance' mean to you?
Work hard and work smart. Don't create business (busy-ness). Enjoy your free time and ensure you are taking care of your family.
Anything else you'd like to share about what makes for your ideal work environment?
Love curious passionate people who really want to do something big.
What's your favorite way to decompress after work?
I like to hangout in my backyard and patio.
